Film: Get Hard (2015)
Get Hard: Not really a whole lot to say about this film. I assumed it may be an amusing Will Ferrell movie. And, well, there were funny bits. But there was also a whole lot of crud. Lots of crudeness, which wasn’t actually funny, I thought. Bit of a shame, really. I give it 4/10.
Film: Ant-man (2015)
Ant-man: I had assumed this film was going to be rubbish. I had mistakenly thought I’d heard it was rubbish at some point. Oh, how wrong I was! One of the most fun superhero films I’ve watched recently, with not a massive attempt at being serious. The humour was fantastic all the way through. I […]
Film: Inside Out (2015)
Inside Out: Probably shouldn’t be logging this – as I didn’t get to watch the whole thing. However, what I saw, I thought was amazing. I loved the story, the concept, well, the whole thing. Really enjoyable to watch. Can Pixar do any wrong? I really must watch it properly. I give it 9/10.
Film: Cinderalla (2015)
Cinderalla: Just a quick one. An enjoyable twist on the classic fairy tale. Was pretty good, but I couldn’t also help but think it could have been better. Cate Blanchett’s performance was good, but, also felt a bit strained and (yes, I know it’s a fairy tale), but somehow unrealistic. If it wasn’t for that, […]
Film: Super (2010)
Super: Didn’t really look into this film before watching it. Thought it may just have been similar in style to Kick-Ass. It is, and it isn’t. Mostly isn’t. Oh, the violence… I still mostly enjoyed it. I give it 7/10.
Film: Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Avengers: Age of Ultron: It’s been a while since I’ve watched it, and since this log entry. I remember enjoying parts, but also felt like it was a bit empty – almost incomplete or just not amazingly well thought out. The special effects, like almost all major modern films, is pretty much flawless – to […]
256 Colour Terminals (in Screen too)
I’m a bit late to the game – 8 colours was clearly enough for me for a long time. Probably still is, but I thought I might join the late 90s and update to 256 colours. This is written from the perspective of a Mac OS X user on 10.9.x, but some of the information […]
Snippet: Enable RSYSLOG UDP Directory Per Host (Debian 7 / Wheezy)
This snippet should work. I saved it under /etc/rsyslog.d/local-network.conf # v5 config – docs used: http://www.rsyslog.com/doc/v8-stable/historical/multi_ruleset_legacy_format_samples.html $template HostBasedLog,”/var/log/network/%HOSTNAME%/%$YEAR%/%$MONTH%/%HOSTNAME%.log” $RuleSet remote *.* ?HostBasedLog # UDP config reverted in main config, and re-enabled here, in similar order # as main TCP example (I even enable the module here too) $ModLoad imudp # bind ruleset to udp listener […]
Australian Based VPS Hosting
A rough guide to virtual private servers/virtual dedicated server providers that have hosting actually in Australia. Requirements My non scientifically worked out requirements for a Linux (ideally Debian) host are: CPU: 1 core (dedicated). RAM*: 1GB (dedicated). Storage: 20GB – technology unimportant, but preference on SSD. Data transfer/Bandwidth**: 100GB (non strict requirement). * I ignore […]
