Kind Hearts and Coronets: This was an amusing black comedy – the main character was just so smooth, you couldn’t help feel sympathetic to his cause most of the time, though he was really pretty damned evil! It’s a story about revenge, and, oh boy, what a revenge it is. It’s worth watching, I think. […]

Movie: Downfall (2004)
Downfall: This was an interesting film for me. IÂ had no idea that it was actually rooted in reality quite heavily. It seemed to have little of the normal extra sensationalism that tends to be added to movies to make them more ‘cool’. Even though I didn’t think Hitler was as crazy as he was made […]
Movie: Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)
Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: A fun third instalment. Good animation – but then, the first two had good animation and effects too! The story was fun, far fetched though it was. It did remind me of the Godzilla cartoons too. 🙂 The character Simon Pegg played really was very good fun too. […]
Movie: Wild Strawberries (1957)
Wild Strawberries: A film that follows the life of an old doctor in Sweden, with him recalling his past in odd dream like sequences. It’s mostly about him and his relationships with people – his wife, friends, son etc. I’m not sure how else I can I can describe this film – best to just […]
Movie: The Killing (1956)
The Killing: An early Kubrick film about a heist that is being planned at a racetrack. Very interestingly done – with scenes running in parallel, with a bit of switching back and forth. IÂ thought it was an enjoyable movie, and the ending did get quite tense. Worth watching. I give it 8/10
Movie: Ben Hur (1959)
Ben Hur: An epic that I thought was good, but not /that/ good. Lots of pretty shonky acting, in my opinion, but the story was reasonably good, but, you could see mostly where it was going to go. Not sure if it really is worth watching or not. I’m glad I did it, so that […]
Movie: Platoon (1986)
Platoon: Another war film that doesn’t glorify war, and has some really depressing scenes. The differences in characters is interesting to see played out. Also, watching Charlie Sheen’s character go from a new recruit to an experienced soldier was interesting to see. It reminds me of Full Metal Jacket a fair bit too for some […]
Movie: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance: To me, this will always be a song that Burt Bacharach wrote. As I heard it long before I knew there was a film with the same name.Anyway, I think James Stewart is becoming a bit of a favourite actor with me, even though he was a bit wimpy in […]
Movie: Nights of Cabiria (1957)
Nights of Cabiria: I did not realise this film was made by the same director who made La Dolce Vita – a film that I didn’t like very much at all (in hindsight, I’d now probably give it at least 5/10). This film follows the days and nights of a prostitute in/near Rome. In the […]
Movie: Cocoon (1985)
Cocoon: I actually saw this closer to a month ago – on a flight over to the US. I had always assumed this was a ‘serious’ sci-fi film, but, it was actually quite lighthearted, and comedic at times. I am not sure I got the full experience of the film, but, I did enjoy it. Also, […]
