Movie: The French Connection (1971)

The French Connection:

A film I had vaguely heard of, but, didn’t really know what it was about.

Well, it’s about a big drug dealer from France making shipments to New York, and some detectives seem to stumble upon it by chance. Though, I don’t think they really know what was really going on themselves, until near the end. Reading the synopsis on imdb, it implies that the two detectives had some sort of tip off – but, if they did, it was not too obvious to me! Possibly I should have used subtitles, as it wasn’t the clearest dialogue at all times.

Gene Hackman was one of only two actors in this film that I recognised – Roy Scheider being the other one (captain from SeaQuest, apparently).

The partnership was interesting – as Gene Hackman’s character was very hot tempered, while Roy Sheider was a lot less tense. Both were very good cops, committed to their jobs.

This film was a little tough to follow at times, I thought there were a lot of things happening, and it was a bit complicated too. Reading some reviews, that has been mentioned by others too.

However, it’s still possible to follow the main gist of  the film, and it does keep you wondering what is going to happen next.

I give it 7/10.
