Book: A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian – Marina Lewycka

A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian:

I bought this book probably when it had been out for a year, or two, and started it at the time, but then put it away, and forgot about it.
I recently restarted the book, and read it relatively quickly (for me, at least) – in about two weeks.

It was a good story, with an irritatingly stupid/naive main guy (the father), a seemingly evil ‘slut’, a hot headed older daughter, and, then, the narrator of the story – the youngest daughter of the father – Nadezhda.

The story is about the father meeting a new woman – who is almost 50 years his junior.

It’s a comic/drama story. The daughters of the father character are trying their best to get rid of the new woman in their father’s life, which is the main thing.
In the mean time, Nadezhda, finds out things about her family that she’d never known about – mainly the history of her parents, and the early life of her ‘Big Sis’.

The novel is interspersed with a book that the father is writing – a history of tractors. Which I actually found quite interesting!

I did enjoy this story, but, it felt like something was missing. I’m not quite sure what though.
