This was a film about an all volunteer black regiment in the US Civil War. It says it is the first, but I’m confused by the other black regiment they meet in the course of the story.
The film is based on the letters that Col. Robert Gould Shaw would send home to his family.
As you can imagine, this film was quite heavy on prejudices, and Shaw and Major Forbes (played by Cary Elwes in the only serious role I think I’ve seen him play – and he played it very well) fought through a lot of it.
This film was quite sad, really.
And, looking through IMDB, there are a few goofs, and differences from reality. But, it’s still worth watching.
I give it 9/10
