Movie: La Haine (1995)

La Haine:

I found this film a bit difficult to watch at first – not because it was gruesome, but simply because the subtitles were white, on an often very light background, making it a problem to read. It also seemed rather slow moving, with perhaps far too much time on character development, which made the film seem duller than it possibly could have been. I understand it might have been to show how dull lives possibly were for the kids in the story.

The characters in the story really aren’t the smartest people in the world, but, they are almost believable. Though, I never really understood why Hubert was ever actually friends with Vinz. That seemed the most non believable part of the story.

I had to fight to stay awake during bits – I know not all films have things blowing up, but, even novels can keep interesting, and this one made me lose interest in the story and the characters a few times.

I give it 5/10 – purely for the last ten minutes or so. It’s also no longer in the imdb top250 as I write this, but, was in August.
