Amadeus (Directors Cut):
Embarrassingly, I had no idea that this film was about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – so when I mentioned it to friends on the weekend before watching it, I just said I had ‘Amadeus’ to watch, and I had no idea what it was about, so wasn’t able to expound on it.
A few bits on this film bugged me, but, it’s really quite silly that they did.
I didn’t like the American accents, and some of the shortenings of names, e.g. Wolfgang being shortened to ‘Wolfy’, and Constanza being shortened to ‘Stanzy’ – especially in the American accents.
My music knowledge is pretty poor. My music history knowledge even more so. Though, I did know that there have been some child prodigies – though, for some reason, my mind thought one of the young ones was Beethoven.
The parts of the music I liked were the bits where Mozart was making music, and the audio was basically a whole orchestra in his mind, and he was just writing down the music he was hearing in his head.
I think the portrayal of Mozart was very odd though. I know it’s a movie, but it seemed unreal. The unmarked grave at the end was very odd too – because, the family still lived in what appeared to be a very nice home, and at the end, he had just received money too! Admittedly, I have no idea how much that is worth.
It is still worth watching, I think.
I give it 7/10 – mostly for the music.
