Movie: Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967)

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner:

A rather unusual subject for a film, I thought, when I first read about this film.

Basically, a white girl and black guy are in love, want to get married, and are just about to go meet the white girls parents for the first time, after a very whirlwind romance.

The reactions of the parents, and other people are all very interesting to watch. I particularly thought the reaction of ‘Tillie’ was a rather interesting one! The reaction of Monsignor Ryan was easily the one I smiled at most.

Definitely worth a watch, for the attitudes of the time, and the performances too – though at times, I actually thought Katharine Hepburn’s character seemed a bit oddly played – almost overacted, perhaps, but – she was also excellent in the film. I think a lot of that was due to the camera work, and direction, more than the actress herself though.

I give it 9/10 – I am also surprised it’s not in the IMDB top 250 – it should be!
