Film Log

Logs of movies I’ve watched.

Movie: The Incredible Hulk (2008)

The Incredible Hulk: A slightly different take on the Hulk franchise, which I thought was quite enjoyable, though, I did hope for more action than was in the film already – I am greedy, obviously. I think, though, perhaps my expectations were warped when I heard when this film was out that it had a lot […]

Movie: Les Diaboliques (1955)

Les Diaboliques: A fairly slow moving mystery/thriller kind of film, initially I really wasn’t too sure where it was going. When things started happening, it did start to move rather rapidly. As might be obvious from the synopsis, there is a twist in this movie, that you’re not meant to tell people! The twist was […]

Movie: Judgement at Nuremberg (1961)

Judgement at Nuremberg: (I’m using the British spelling). I seem to have gone through a few World War II movies in the past few weeks. This is, of course, another one. Set not long after Germany’s fall, this film is about the trial of four judges who are on trial for their part in sending […]

Movie: The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)

2009/08/102010/01/10 Sid Leave a comment Film Log

The Best Years of Our Lives: I thought this was an amazing film. I thought it was a very emotional film quite a lot of the way through. I thought it displayed the adjustment that people had to make after coming back from a long war very well for people like me, who have no […]

Movie: Manhattan (1979)

Manhattan: (This is the first in a blitz of little log entries). An amusing film, but, not exceptional, in my opinion. The concept of love and relationships was played with. Woody Allen’s character has his millions of neuroses. It seemed pretty much like any typical Woody Allen film, though, I wasn’t expecting the end. He […]

Movie: Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949)

2009/07/232010/01/10 Sid Leave a comment Film Log

Kind Hearts and Coronets: This was an amusing black comedy – the main character was just so smooth, you couldn’t help feel sympathetic to his cause most of the time, though he was really pretty damned evil! It’s a story about revenge, and, oh boy, what a revenge it is. It’s worth watching, I think. […]

Movie: Downfall (2004)

Downfall: This was an interesting film for me. I had no idea that it was actually rooted in reality quite heavily. It seemed to have little of the normal extra sensationalism that tends to be added to movies to make them more ‘cool’. Even though I didn’t think Hitler was as crazy as he was made […]

Movie: Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: A fun third instalment. Good animation – but then, the first two had good animation and effects too! The story was fun, far fetched though it was. It did remind me of the Godzilla cartoons too. 🙂 The character Simon Pegg played really was very good fun too. […]

Movie: Wild Strawberries (1957)

2009/07/202010/01/10 Sid Leave a comment Film Log

Wild Strawberries: A film that follows the life of an old doctor in Sweden, with him recalling his past in odd dream like sequences. It’s mostly about him and his relationships with people – his wife, friends, son etc. I’m not sure how else I can I can describe this film – best to just […]

Movie: The Killing (1956)

2009/07/202010/01/10 Sid Leave a comment Film Log

The Killing: An early Kubrick film about a heist that is being planned at a racetrack. Very interestingly done – with scenes running in parallel, with a bit of switching back and forth. I thought it was an enjoyable movie, and the ending did get quite tense. Worth watching. I give it 8/10
