Movie: Cinema Paradiso (1988) – Directors Cut

Cinema Paradiso:

Wow, what a film.

It’s a story that focuses on one man who recalls his life from childhood through to teenage years, and, what I assume is him in his late forties.

First, some flaws with the film. I thought that the acting of the young mother a couple of times seemed a bit poor. The sound also seemed rather unsynced (I was listening to it with Italian audio, English subtitles). Obviously, I can’t understand Italian, but the lips moving at a different speed to what was being spoken confused me at times. These were minor points.

To me, I saw it as a film of a type of forbidden love, and of protection of the main character by a father figure who was looking out for the best in the main character. There was more to it, but that was what I got out of the film.

It had some extremely happy, and extremely sad scenes. Even enough to bring tears to my eyes.

Really is an excellent movie, and even with the flaws…

… I give it 10/10.
