This was more of a historical lesson for me than anything else. I had absolutely no idea about the ‘Dust Bowl’ problems in the US in the early 1930s.
The film starts with Henry Fonda’s character, hitching a ride with a truck driver, and showing a bit of his short temper that seems to recur throughout.
The poverty that’s displayed is really quite scary to see, and the film depicted that extremely well. Casy, the ‘preacher’ character was also very enjoyable. I enjoyed his screen time. It was difficult to figure out whether he was meant to be a bit crazy or not. Perhaps that was the point.
It is a bit of a long film, but, the travelling part of it has excellent scenery, and this film really is very well done.
I give it 10/10
