Movie: His Girl Friday (1940)

His Girl Friday:

A comedy about newspaper men (and women). The film starts with a scene where the ex-wife of an editor at a newspaper (at least, I think he’s the editor) tells him she’s going to get married to an insurance salesman, and live happily ever after. I can’t remember now why she even bothers to tell him, but, she does.
The editor (Cary Grant) is not going to let her go, and formulates a plan to keep her around, in an attempt to win her back, because he just knows that she can’t quit the newspaper game.

I had a difficulty with this film – the audio was horrendous, so I couldn’t make everything out. Also, the subtitles did not seem to work on the DVD!

The comedy was good though, as was the story. Bribing and threats galore, and an extremely unscrupulous editor in the way of Cary Grant.

I enjoyed it, the bad audio did detract, however.

I give it 7/10
