Movie: La Dolce Vita (1960)

La Dolce Vita:

I guess this really isn’t my kind of film. It made very little sense to me, I wasn’t sure where it was going, what was happening, etc.

Right at the beginning, where he meets Maddelena, it all seemed fairly okay. But then, with the other parties, and the oddness with the party with the ‘American Actress’, where the relations of all the people involved didn’t make sense to me, I lost the plot of where this film was going.

The rest of the film seemed to go along in this vein for me, so I’m obviously missing something either really obvious, or annoyingly subtle.

The subtitles not showing up when some Italian was being spoken caused me a bit of confusion – obviously when other languages were being spoken, I wouldn’t expect subtitles, but, as the film is in Italian, it would’ve been nice!

The ending especially – at that point, I was even more confused than anything. It’s obvious that he fell for the allure, but, what was all the craziness about?

I give it 3/10 – for the bits that did make sense.
