This is the first Charlie Chaplin film I can recall watching as an adult. I wasn’t sure if I should be expecting slapstick comedy – not with a movie that’s in the IMDB top 250. I was surprised. And it was excellent.
Charlie Chaplin is a factory worker who has a nervous breakdown, and manages to get into trouble.
I think the filmography was fantastic – the timing superb, the scenes extremely well played out.
The romance part of the film was a bit odd – I’m really not sure how to explain it.
It’s also done in a mostly silent movie style.
I’m also rather impressed that Charlie Chaplin wrote, directed, starred and composed the music for this film.
I watched this on Friday night, and I still think it’s excellent.
I give it 9/10.
