I was looking forward to this movie, so, perhaps my expectations were high. It’s probably the oldest movie I’ve watched.
I was sorely disappointed. I found it difficult to make sense of the film, and the music was horrendous. I watched the ‘Eureka Entertainment’ restoration version, which I’ve since learned has a really crap soundtrack. Someone’s description of the music on a Lovefilm review: "Instead some complete idiot has put synthesised noodling all over the thing. I swear that at one point he must have put a brick on the keyboard and nipped off for a curry."
I wish I had watched it on mute now.
The other annoyance was that the intertitles were on for an incredibly long amount of time. I was literally starting to fall asleep because they were on for so long. I was tempted to fast forward the intertitles at points, but, not knowing how long they were going to be on for, that would’ve been a silly idea.
What I don’t understand is that Eureka Entertainment also did the restoration of M (I could be mistaken, perhaps they are just the distributors). Admittedly, M is 9 years newer, but the restoration job done on M is absolutely fantastic, while Nosferatu has a rather bad film quality.
I give it 4/10. Though I tried to like it.
