This is the story of Rocky Balboa, a ‘bum’ as he’s described in the film, whose life is going nowhere, until, out of the blue, he is chosen as a contender for the world heavyweight champion.
I think Stallone was very good in this movie, his character wasn’t really very smart, and the character himself knew it. The lives of the people in the film seemed very ordinary too. The friendships seemed real.
I felt sympathy for Rocky – all he really knew how to do was boxing. And even that he’d not really honed his skill in.
The transformation at the end of the film into the boxer he becomes is fantastic.
I would recommend watching this film. It might feel a bit slow in parts, but that’s probably because I thought it was a full on action film. It’s not. There are only two fights in the movie – one at the beginning, and one at the end.
I give it 9/10.
