The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari):
Not one of my favourite films from the IMDB top 250. I simply couldn’t get past the very bad acting, the very odd sets, and the story I didn’t like too.
The story is about a town which has a spate of murders, and is a kind of horror. Dr. Caligari is in control of a somnambulist, and is apparently able to get the somnambulist to do his bidding.
Why he does what he does is not really explained. It’s obvious he’s a little unhinged.
I also completely failed to understand the end, one minute the ‘hero’ is in a garden, the next he is in a different location. Have we gone backwards or forwards in time, or something else altogether?
